Alexa Chung collaborates with JuJu for new footwear collection. British fashion model and presenter, Alexa Chung has teamed up with UK footwear company, JuJu to create her own line of jelly shoes.

The fashion designer who launched her eponymous fashion brand back in 2016 has released new pieces of nostalgic footwear at her spring/summer 2019 catwalk show at London Fashion Week as part of her collaboration with JuJu.

All of the shoes will be made exclusively at JuJu’s Northampton factory in the UK , where they have been manufacturing footwear for over 30 years.

The shoes themselves are made by injecting specially made moulds to form their iconic shapes. In a statement released to coincide with the launch of her new footwear, the 35-year old designer said: “At a time when we seem as a generation compelled to look back in order to move forward in fashion, jelly shoes seem to occupy a particularly joyful corner of my memories. “Playful, ironic, practical and cool, a glamorous facelift of the jelly shoe seemed amusing and made a statement in our Arrivals and Departures collection.”

Alexa footwear comes in a choice of yellow, smoke and transparent PVC with features that include a sparkly side buckle closure and heel. The Alexa Chung x JuJu Crystal Buckle Babe heel retails for €90.00 with the Crystal Wreath Reilly flat costing €80.00. Reminiscing about fashion days gone by, she revealed that she wanted to give the iconic 90s footwear a “playful facelift” that was also “fashion forward”.

Chatting prior to the launch of her new collection, she said: “I guess where I holiday is quite rocky so I was thinking of a practical solution to a real-life problem. “But also there’s something quite nostalgic about revisiting the 90s, so I wanted to put a new twist on that idea and update it.”

“The humour for me in those particular jelly shoes is that they’re emblazoned with beautiful diamante encrusted buckles, so it was taking something out of context and repositioning it as glamorous evening wear.”
