Gisele Bündchen reveals she considered suicide over panic attacks. She is one of the most successful supermodel in the world, but Gisele Bundchen is letting people know that her life is not as perfect as it seems on the outside.
In her new memoir, Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, Gisele wrote how at the peak of her career, after landing a record-breaking $25m contract with Victoria’s Secret, she suffered from terrible anxiety.
Having her first panic attack on a bumpy plane ride in 2003, the mother of two then developed a fear of elevators, tunnels and other enclosed spaces.
In an interview with People, she said: “I felt powerless. Your world becomes smaller and smaller, and you can’t breathe, which is the worst feeling I’ve ever had.”
She even admits that she considered suicide at one point.
“I actually had the feeling of, ‘If I just jump off my balcony, this is going to end, and I never have to worry about this feeling of my world closing in.”’
Seeking professional help, she was prescribed Xanax but didn’t want to rely on medication. Instead, she decided to change her eating and drinking habits and turned to yoga and meditation to combat stress.
“I had been smoking cigarettes, drinking a bottle of wine and three mocha Frappucinos every day, and I gave up everything in one day,”
“I thought, if this stuff is in any way the cause of this pain in my life, it’s gotta go.”
After some soul searching, she decided to break up with her boyfriend of five year, Leonardo DiCaprio.
“Everyone who crosses our path is a teacher, they come into our lives to show us something about ourselves.
“And I think that’s what he was. What is good versus bad? I honour him for what he was.”
“Things can be looking perfect on the outside, but you have no idea what’s really going on,” the supermodel told People. “I felt like maybe it was time to share some of my vulnerabilities, and it made me realize, everything I’ve lived through, I would never change, because I think I am who I am because of those experiences.”
