Gucci branded racist over woman’s jumper. Italian fashion label, Gucci have found themselves in the middle of a “racism” storm over a jumper that some people are finding offensive.
Gucci who are renowned for their high-level fashion designs have released a woman’s “balaclava jumper” which pulls up over the facial area and is cut-out around the mouth area. It is completed with red lining that resembles red lip stick leading some people to believe this mirrors a black person’s face.
This controversy comes in the same week that has been surrounded by controversy with Irish actor, Liam Neeson revealing he had minor thoughts of killing a black person after his friend was raped,
Gucci, found themselves in the middle of a racist storm with calls by some people for them to pull their jumper from their collection altogether because they find it offensive.
In fairness to the Italian fashion house who listened to public opinion, they decided to remove it from sale in both their retail stores and online and apologising for any offence caused.
However, this doesn’t seem to be the end of the matter as the jumper is still available for purchase at an independent on-line shopping website “shopspring” where people can still buy this for $890 (€600)
Spring describe this black jumper as “The Fall Winter 2018 runway show space reflected the stark environment of an operating room, emulating the theme of the collection where reconstructing materials and fabrics created a new identity”
“Inspired by vintage ski masks, multicolored knitted balaclavas walked the runway, adding a mysterious feel to this collection. This knit top combines the accessory with the ready-to-wear collection”.
Founded in Florence, Italy back in 1921, Gucci are today one of the most recognised and trusted luxury brands in the world who produce top quality ladies and gentleman’s fashion and accessories.
