MAC has stopped photoshopping facial hair. Earlier this month, Urban Decay decided to step away from photoshop and decided to embrace ‘real skin’. The makeup brand has shown images of makeup artists with visible pores, freckles, wrinkles and breakouts. And fans have been loving it.
Well now, it looks like MAC has decided to follow suit. In recent photos, they have opted out of erasing facial hair, instead showing models with peach fuzz on their faces.
While it is refreshing to see images that have not been heavily edited make their way onto the ‘gram, the decision not to remove facial hair has proven divisive, with some of MAC’s followers saying that the hair should have been removed prior to taking the shot. (One such comment being, “Wax it darling”.)
However, despite some negativity, MAC has been praised for choosing to feature these pictures over ones that have been edited and unrealistic – because this is what real skin looks like.
“There’s nothing ‘wrong’ with this hair at all,” wrote one Instagram user. “Actually, this picture is so refreshing. Pretty much everyone has this downy hair around their lips and I love seeing it not being Photoshopped out. Well done, MAC.”
Another two commented, “Gorgeous! And I love that the model has little facial hair,” and, “So good to see a makeup image that hasn’t been photoshopped to within an inch of its life.”
These images shouldn’t be revolutionary…and yet they are. Hopefully more brands follow MAC’s and Urban Decay’s example and step away from photoshop.
